How It All Began: Surgery Information for Patients

I knew a day would come when I would need surgery. I live with a digestive disease and delayed having necessary abdominal surgery for as long as I could. I felt anxious and afraid – even terrified – every time I thought about it. When my health started to seriously decline, I couldn’t put the surgery off any longer.

I was determined to learn as much as I could about being a surgery patient. I wanted patient tips to prepare my body. I wanted to know what to expect in the hospital, what it would be like when I got home, and how to recover as fast as possible.

Finding What I Wanted to Know

Finding tips and resources online wasn’t as easy as I thought it would be. I have a successful career in healthcare public relations. I’ve spent hours online researching medical topics, health organizations, and diseases for work. But when I started looking for surgery information for patients, there was no single place I could go to find everything I wanted to know – especially from the patient’s perspective. I spent hours in Facebook groups, searching online, and talking to friends and family who had surgery experience.

We’re Here For You!

I started this blog to help make patients’ surgery journeys easier by providing easy-to-access tips, tools, and information, all in one place. This will always be a work in progress as I add new posts and resources. I share my insights and things I’ve learned from other patients and caregivers. I also want to create a community where people can share experiences and ideas to learn more about having the best possible surgery experience.
